A little back story of how this site came about.
Since I first got the internet back in the days of 2400 baud modem and my post days of BBS’ing I started saving pictures that I really liked, mostly for wallpapers at that time. I eventually did find a nice picture rotating program called DeskSlide that takes folder/images and makes your windows wallpaper a slideshow of images on your computer. So over the years I have amassed about 16,000(yes, seriously) pictures and counting on my computer. Your probably thinking, “Shit man, thats a lot of porn!” None of it is porn, not that I don’t like porn but thats a different subject of art, per say.
My collection is just from years and years of browsing the internet. Sadly I can’t recall where I got many of the pictures I have so I can’t really credit anyone unless I took note and I do regret that because if I do use a piece on this site some of the pieces I feel probably do deserve credit that I can’t give.
This particular site came about from me just toying around with images and wanting to do something creative with my time rather than zone out on TV or let my brain turn to mush elsewhere. I’ve wanted to do a webcomic for some time and my artistic talents are sadly lacking but hopefully they improve. I could go jump on the bandwagon of doing stick figure comics like every other damn person on the internet is doing these days but though those comics might have a funny punch line, the art of them is a joke. I actually do enjoy art quite a bit and find it enhances a piece or a comic. I used to read printed comics heavily and you don’t see professionals doing stick figure drawings. I just feel I don’t want to lower myself to that style. I have higher standards to my work.
I also do like webcomic and there are some pretty good ones out there and some pretty funny ones but I’ll be completely honest, I do not frequent any. Why? Because I’ve had the idea of doing writing or doing a comic for awhile now and I was reading some webcomic some time ago and came across one that used a punchline that I had written down probably like 6 months before I read the comic and after reading that I kind of just stopped because I didn’t want to run into an issue of “who came up with the line first?” thing. Most obviously the first published would get credit but that doesn’t make it right either. Does the more popular one get credit also? So to keep myself in a creative mood and free from the feeling that I’d be stealing lines or ideas I just stopped. Because of all that though I’ve actually grown to like story line comics that are funny yet serious.
I will say I’m a fan of Twisted Toyfare Theatre.
Since my art skills are without a Z and being lack of awesome, I wanted to do a comic up like they do. If you look in the storyline section you’ll see I tried this route for a bit but didn’t persue for lack of toys with a theme.
Now you might be able to tell that this site came from my wanting to do something creative and also from my love of art and history.
No, I am no art history major but I do love both those subjects separate of each other. I love old photos because when I look at them I think of how things must have been back in those times and what the subject of the picture was going through at the time. You could say that old photos and good art “move” me.
As for any infringement on the use of some of the images I use, please head on over to the copyright page for all that legal mumbo jumbo jazz crap. I just happen across images that say something to me and I just happen to know how to make those images say something back and I let the word know what they are telling me.
…. yes I have been called weird before if you were wondering.
That is all, carry on.
